University Gastroenterology President Dr. Thomas E. Sepe Earns Clinical Professorship at Brown University Medical School
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (July 12, 2018) – University Gastroenterology has announced that its President, Dr. Thomas E. Sepe, has been promoted to the position of Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Sepe served as a Clinical Associate Professor for 10 years prior to this promotion and has been teaching at the medical school for more than 25 years.
Dr. Sepe’s Clinical Professorship, effective July 1, 2018, was bestowed after a year-long application and review process. Dr. Sepe earned national recognition through his clinical trials work with liver disease, specifically in Hepatitis C, an accomplishment that he says helped him attain the promotion. He also credits the team at University Gastroenterology, saying that the support of the group “is a contributing factor” to his success.
With this new title, Dr. Sepe now holds the highest faculty rank at University Gastroenterology, where he also serves as Director of the Liver Center and Director of Clinical Trials in Hepatology. At the Warren Alpert School of Medicine, Dr. Sepe teaches and mentors many levels of medical students, including first-years, medical residents, and fellows.
Dr. Sepe cites the influence of his own mentors as the catalyst of this advancement in his teaching career, “To be someone who promotes success in a clinical career is very important to me, as I have had many people who were amazingly influential in what I’ve accomplished. It brings me great satisfaction to be able to return that to a new generation of physicians,” said Dr. Sepe.
A resident of Lincoln, RI, Dr. Sepe is a graduate of Brown University and earned his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He completed an Internal Medicine residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA as well as a gastroenterology fellowship at the New England Medical Center.
