FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
East Providence, RI – December 2, 2013
Chicago, IL – December 1st represented the opening of the 99th annual RSNA conference in Chicago, which is radiology’s premier scientific and educational conference in the world. Damian Dupuy, MD, was chosen to give the opening lecture before an audience comprised from the 55,000 attendees from all over the world. Dr. Dupuy chose the topic “We Must Stand on the Shoulders of Giants.” The theme of this prestigious lecture discussed the need to collaborate between Radiation Oncology and Diagnostic Imaging.
“Because of the many changes and challenges we face in healthcare, diagnostic imaging becomes a more and more critical part of patient collaboration. This is why my lecture focuses on the important role radiology has in the new ways to treat many cancers,” according to Dr. Dupuy.
Dr. Dupuy joined Rhode Island Medical Imaging in January of 1997 and is the director of Tumor Ablation at Rhode Island Hospital and a professor of Diagnostic Imaging at Brown Medical School. Dr. Dupuy is the pioneer in the use of image-guided ablation and has helped broaden clinical applications to successfully combat cancer involving the kidney, liver, lung, adrenal system, head, neck and skeleton. Other newer technologies, such as microwave ablation and combination therapies using RFA with external radiation or brachytherapy, have also been developed by Dr. Dupuy. In addition to being the principal investigator of two NCI funded multicenter trials, Dr. Dupuy has published over 160 clinical articles and given over 120 invited lectures in the field of radiology and image-guided tumor ablation.
In addition to Dr. Dupuy’s leadership at the RSNA, Rhode Island Medical Imaging is also well represented with seven additional physicians in attendance. All eight RIMI physicians also participate in the RSNA by leading 17 instructional courses and lectures, as well as presenting seven scientific papers, seven educational exhibits and one scientific poster.
